a something I want forever

by Misty Dawn

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.”

Philippians 4:4-9

these two are my friends.

& i love them.

wouldn’t have known one without having known the other.

& wouldn’t have know her without having been somewhere that i wasn’t for very long.

she’s something else.

but a something i want for forever.

i’ve known her longer than any friend i’ve ever had that i still have.

& plan to keep her around.

she knows the things my heart loves,

& the things that don’t belong in my heart at all.

i can tell her the truth about what i see in her,

& expect the same gift in return.

she’s not a space filler,

but there’s far too much space between us.

she’s a life giver.

a reminder that while we aren’t who we once were, we’re also not yet who we’re going to be.

there’s freedom in that truth.

& freedom in the sharing of who we really are.

i don’t have to pretend i’m something i’m not.

& she definitely doesn’t do that.

but i also don’t have to pretend i’m not something that i am.

& since life can only be given by The One who created it,

& He’s after her heart,

His life flows through her, to me.

& just like He joined us,

He joined these two.

well . . .

really He wove a cord of three.

& like our God is a father to the fatherless, & our eternal Husband,

so is this man a husband to my friend,

& a father to her son.

so why Philippians 4:4-9 ?

because the Lord is at hand.

& always.

because there is peace.

because there are lovely things.

& true.

because He is true.

Philippians 4:4-9 because despite what is not lovely,

what is not true or just,

our God is.

& He is the one who guards our minds,

only asking that with thankful hearts we bring Him our requests,

trusting Him more than desiring our own way.

getting in exchange a peace,

a peace that surpasses all understanding.

she’s something i want forever.

& he’s something she wants forever.

 like He wants us.
