the kind of faith that frees.

by Misty Dawn

my faith is a liberty I did not purchase.

a freedom.

to love.

to serve.

to wait.

a privilege that I did not earn.

a gift.

like the gift of walking.

still I have to learn how to use it,

and then how to steward it,

so that this gift meant for freedom doesn’t enslave.

this freedom to love can’t be in the hope that our love is returned,

or that we will be served as we serve.

because that is not freedom.

and that is not what this liberty is about.

this privilege.

we can’t buy it, and we damn sure can’t earn it.

but when we receive it . . .

when we welcome it for what it is,

not what we wish it were . . .

we are set free.
